Taking Payment for a Booking
Charge to hold the slot, and no-shows stop being free.
A booking flow can require payment before the slot is confirmed. This is the single most effective thing you can do about people who book and do not turn up.
Turning it on
- Open the flow and go to its Settings.
- Open Payment and switch payment on.
- Set the amount.
- Choose which Stripe connection to charge through.
The flow list shows a Required badge on any flow that charges, and Free on the ones that do not, so you can see at a glance which is which.
You need Stripe connected first
Payment runs through your own Stripe account using your API keys. If you have not set that up, do Connecting Stripe under Selling on Jot first — it takes about five minutes.
Deposit or full price?
Both work. A deposit is easier to say yes to and still gives someone a reason to show up. Charging in full suits short, fixed-price appointments where you would not be able to refill the slot anyway.
If you take a deposit, say so plainly in the description, along with what happens to it. People are far more willing to pay when they know the terms up front.
Refunds and cancellations
Refunds are issued from your Stripe dashboard, the same as any other payment. Jot does not refund automatically when a booking is deleted, so cancelling a booking and refunding it are two separate actions.
Write your cancellation terms into the flow description. It is the last thing someone reads before they pay, and it is the thing they will quote back at you later.
